tl;dr What are some ways to decrease Stage 1+2 and REM sleep?

I don't really mind if I have to take drugs to do it, but it would be nice if they were easy to get or often prescribed.

Lifestyle changes to do this are also welcome, but I don't think that they have a huge effect. Anything to help though.

I've read that they stop rats from having REM sleep by keeping them in a bucket and when they relax their muscles too much, they fall into the water. I don't know if a human model could be made, but it might not be very practical.

The reason that I want to do this is because the removal of REM sleep doesn't adversely affect much, as MAOIs decrease them, but they function normally. S1 and S2 sleep should be obvious, they are 'lower performance' sleeps.

Ideally my sleep would eliminate most of the stages, but I know that will be impossible.

Why do you want to remove REM sleep? Do you want to avoid dreaming?

I know that REM sleep deprivation is used to treat depression, but its not very useful since people can't work very well without sleep.

It would be nice to see if it improves my mood.
